Trump sets timeline for Iran strikes and unveils peace proposal as US and Israel continue operations.
Persian Gulf Tensions Remain High
According to TSN.ua: The Persian Gulf remains a flashpoint as American and Israeli forces carry out military operations against Iran’s government. These actions have been ongoing for a month, with an April 6 deadline set for strikes targeting Iranian energy infrastructure. Despite the military activity, U.S. President Donald Trump claims Iran is seeking peace. Meanwhile, Tehran has put forward tough conditions that complicate any potential negotiations.
Specifically, Iran is demanding:
- the removal of all U.S. military bases in the region;
- billions of dollars in reparations;
- continued control over the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, the Trump administration—with Pakistan acting as an intermediary—has sent a peace proposal to Tehran. The plan was crafted by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Trump remarked that
“they are begging me to make a deal, not the other way around,”emphasizing that negotiations are not one-sided.
In a related move, Iran has handed over 10 oil tankers to the United States, signaling some willingness to engage in dialogue. Still, the rigidity of Tehran’s demands and the overall uncertainty remain major obstacles. Senator Marco Rubio noted that
“several European leaders have said the war in Iran is not their business,”highlighting a lack of international consensus on how to resolve the conflict.
Global Stakes in the Region
The situation in the Persian Gulf is critical not just locally but for global politics as well, given the potential impact on worldwide energy markets and security. The U.S.-Israeli military campaign, combined with Iran’s uncompromising stance, underscores the risk of escalation—a development that could introduce new threats to regional stability. Although diplomatic efforts are underway, they face serious hurdles that demand closer attention from the international community.
