In February 2025, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that ensuring European security should now be the main concern of NATO members themselves. Since early 2025, U.S. military support for European countries has sharply declined. Concurrently, Russia continues to significantly increase its military spending, allocating roughly 40% of its federal budget to defense.
