Botanichnyi Sad Metro Station

According to Novyny.live: Opened in the summer of 2004, Kharkiv's Botanichnyi Sad metro station serves as a key stop on the city's green (Oleksiivska) line. It links the northern suburbs with downtown Kharkiv, making travel easier for both locals and visitors. Designed by architects V. Spivachuk and I. Karpenko, the station boasts a distinctive and visually appealing architectural style.

The station features an island platform adorned with metal enamel elements that give it a contemporary look. During construction, artifacts from the Kyivan Rus era were uncovered. These historical finds are now housed at the Kharkiv Historical Museum, highlighting the deep historical significance of the area where the station was built.

Changes in the Kharkiv Metro

Starting May 24, 2022, rides on the Kharkiv Metro became free of charge, making public transit more accessible for residents and visitors. Another major shift occurred on April 29, 2024, when two stations were renamed:

  • 'Pushkinska' became 'Yaroslava Mudroho'
  • 'Pivdennyi Vokzal' became 'Vokzalna'

Three additional stations were renamed on July 27, 2024:

  • 'Prospekt Haharina' became 'Levada'
  • 'Heroiv Pratsi' became 'Saltivska'
  • 'Zavod imeni Malysheva' became 'Zavodska'

These updates are part of Kharkiv's ongoing efforts to modernize and improve its infrastructure.

Botanichnyi Sad is more than just a busy transit hub for Kharkiv residents; it also holds cultural and historical importance due to the artifacts found at the site. The free metro fares, introduced during wartime, underscore local authorities' commitment to keeping public transport accessible. The 2024 station renamings reflect the city's push for modernization and renewal, which could also boost Kharkiv's appeal as a tourist destination.
