Fines up to €15,000: why passengers are removed from flights.
According to inkorr.com: Passengers can be removed from flights not only for lack of documentation or booking but also for violating rules on board, such as consuming alcohol or vaping. This can lead to fines in the thousands of euros or even arrest upon landing. This was reported by Daily Express.
Airlines are tightening fines for inappropriate passenger behavior
Experts note that such situations not only create inconveniences but can also lead to significant costs – from €500 with Ryanair for 'inappropriate behavior' to possible criminal cases for smoking on board.
Since June 2025, the low-cost airline has introduced a fixed fine of €500 (approximately 22,000 UAH) for removing a passenger from a flight, while EasyJet and Wizz Air have tightened control over passengers. In Turkey, fines have been introduced since May for excessive nervousness on board, and in Europe, fines can reach up to €15,000 if a flight must be rerouted due to a drunk passenger.
Top 4 violations that may lead to penalties:
Excessive alcohol consumption: the habit of 'partying' at the airport can lead to removal and fines of up to €15,000 with Ryanair – the company may change course if the passenger is aggressive;
Smoking on board: the prohibition is very strict due to the risk of fire. Fines can be up to €5,000 plus possible criminal penalties upon landing;
Ignoring safety instructions: if a passenger does not buckle up after being signaled, the flight attendant may detain them, and the pilot can return the plane to the airport; legal assistance may be possible;
Vaping in the cabin: for British Airways and Wizz Air, this is prohibited, with fines ranging from €500 to €1,000, and possible revocation of the right to future flights and police involvement.
Flight attendants have the right to document violations and detain passengers, while pilots can return the flight if passenger safety is threatened.
'We have implemented a fine of €500 that will be imposed on all passengers who are removed from the aircraft due to their inappropriate behavior', said Ryanair.
Experts advise to familiarize oneself with the rules before flying, as fines can cause significant inconveniences, up to a disrupted trip.
Recently, it was also reported that airlines fine passengers for sandwiches, further emphasizing the importance of complying with all regulations during flights.
