Legal Victory for a Chernihiv Student
According to Novyny.live: A student in Chernihiv has won a court case against the Ministry of Education and Science regarding a certificate that could have stripped him of his right to defer military mobilization. The hearing took place on February 16, 2023, where the Chernihiv District Administrative Court ruled the Ministry's actions unlawful. This case highlights the legal tensions between educational status and military service obligations in Ukraine.
The student, who became a master's degree candidate at the National University 'Chernihiv Polytechnic' on October 1, 2025, is studying a specialty set to conclude on December 31, 2026. He was initially enrolled at the National University 'Chernihiv Collegium' on September 25, 2022, but was expelled on January 3, 2024, for failing to meet academic requirements. Subsequently, on September 29, 2025, he was re-enrolled at the National University 'Chernihiv Polytechnic'.
Significance of the Court Ruling
The court's decision compels the Ministry of Education and Science to issue a new certificate with the correct wording regarding the continuity of his education. This ruling can be appealed at the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal within 30 days. Consequently, the case establishes a significant legal precedent concerning student rights in the context of mobilization and official documentation.
