Woman in Odesa Region Gets 5-Year Suspended Sentence for Tracking Military Recruitment Offices.
Court Ruling Against Odesa Region Resident
According to Novyny.live: A court in Odesa Region has found a woman from the Rozdilna district guilty of obstructing military mobilization, sentencing her to five years in prison with a three-year probation period. Evidence showed she actively used Viber to report the locations of Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) workers, leading to the verdict.
The case relied on messages she posted in a Viber group of over 350 members, disclosing where TRC staff and checkpoints were situated. The court determined these actions hindered mobilization efforts, which are critical under current conditions. Despite the guilty verdict, the woman avoided serving actual prison time, as the judge granted her a three-year probationary period.
This case highlights how digital platforms can be used to disrupt state security operations during wartime. Ukraine has been enforcing stricter penalties for such offenses since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
Patriotic Gesture and Broader Implications
In addition, the woman demonstrated a patriotic stance by donating 35,000 hryvnias to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Separately, in the Poltava region, a man was recently convicted for also sharing TRC checkpoint locations on Viber. These incidents underscore the severe consequences for actions that may undermine national security during active military conflict.
This case emphasizes the importance of complying with national security laws, especially during wartime. Disseminating information that could harm mobilization efforts is viewed as a serious threat to the state.
Court rulings in such cases may serve as a warning to others considering similar actions, demonstrating that such behavior will not go unpunished.
