Military Recruitment Office Explains Yard Entry Incident: What We Know About the Shovel Altercation.
Incident at the Volyn Regional Military Recruitment Office
According to Novyny.live: Officials from the Volyn Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support have addressed a recent confrontation where service members mistakenly drove onto private property, sparking a clash with local residents. Colonel Roman Nemashkalo, head of the Volyn Regional Recruitment Center, confirmed that an official investigation is underway.
The Clash and Its Aftermath
The altercation, which involved shovels, erupted when eight members of a notification team—only two of whom had combat experience—entered private land. One soldier suffered a blow to the head from a shovel. Oleksandr Levytskyi, head of the Kovel Recruitment Center, stated that the team leader, Junior Sergeant Laszlo, has been reprimanded as a disciplinary measure.
Nemashkalo explained that the soldiers believed they were on unoccupied terrain. He also addressed why police did not intervene, stating:
“The police did not risk approaching people with shovels.” - Roman Nemashkalo
Separately, the recruitment office clarified that one individual involved in the incident—a man removed from military registration in 2015—has since been re-registered and mobilized.
The official investigation continues, and further actions by the recruitment center will be determined based on its findings.
This episode underscores the need for clear coordination and training among military personnel, especially when interacting with civilians. An accidental intrusion onto private property can heighten tensions between the armed forces and local communities, highlighting the importance of additional drills. The outcome of the investigation may shape future mobilization policies and personnel training procedures within the recruitment center.
