Budanov on the exchange of territories for peace: I am a maximum opponent.
According to ТСН: The head of the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate Kyrylo Budanov commented on the possibility of exchanging Ukrainian territories for peace.
Comment on the exchange of territories
In his interview for the LB Club, he noted:
“Don't rush into this. I say again: I am a maximum opponent of giving anything away. In principle.”
These words were spoken in response to a question about a possible referendum and the reaction of Ukrainians to the possibility of transferring part of the territories to Russia.
Territorial issues in the peace process
The issue of territories remains an important barrier in the peace process. US President Donald Trump noted that
“Ukrainians have already lost territory”, but also emphasized that the US, together with Europe, is working to ensure security guarantees for Ukraine.
At the same time, during the award ceremony for Russian servicemen on December 17, Vladimir Putin stated that Russia will achieve its goals, as it has the right to “historical lands”. Kremlin officials have repeatedly expressed their intention to take Donbas, using both military and other means.
Thus, the position of Ukrainian officials regarding territorial concessions remains clear. Undoubtedly, this issue requires further discussion, as without resolving territorial disputes, it is impossible to achieve sustainable peace in the region. The reaction of the international community, especially in the context of security, also plays an important role in these discussions.
