Turning at the intersection: which driver violates the rules due to traffic signs.
The task is to know the traffic signs. Which driver's car violates the rules when making a turn in the situation depicted in the picture?
The task was proposed by the channel 'For! Rules'.
Answer options:
- Driver of the red car.
- Driver of the white car.
- Both drivers violate the rules.
- Neither driver violates the rules.
Task analysis
At the intersection, the drivers of the red and white cars intend to make a turn. A sign 3.23 'Left turn forbidden' is installed in front of them, which prohibits a left turn, but a U-turn is permitted. This is a temporary sign on a yellow background, which takes precedence over permanent signs.
Another sign 5.16 'Traffic directions by lanes', shows the number of lanes at the intersection and the allowed directions of travel in each of them. If the sign allows a left turn from the extreme left lane, it also allows a U-turn from that lane. This means that the driver of the red car can turn without any problems.
However, if the driver of the white car makes a U-turn from the right lane, this will constitute a violation of the rules, because even though the sign would allow a left turn from the right lane (if this permission were not canceled by sign 3.23), it still would not confer the right to turn around.
