MSNBC changes its name to MS NOW: what the rebranding of the American media means.
According to Vox: The MSNBC channel will now be called MS NOW. This news has sparked considerable interest among viewers. This was reported in the official statement from the channel.
The updated name has nothing to do with Microsoft or the abbreviation 'Ms'. Instead, MS NOW stands for 'My Source of News, Opinions, and the World'.
Behind this seemingly unamusing story lie substantial changes — and fear — in mainstream media.
Both MSNBC and CNN are undergoing similar transformations; they are separating from large media corporations. These corporations — Comcast owns MSNBC, while CNN belongs to Warner Bros — have significant commercial motives for such actions. Both channels, along with other cable networks, are being transferred to a newly created company that some are calling 'SpinCo' (spun-off company), while others refer to it as 'ShitCo' (without further explanation). This is related to the decline in cable television.
The name change of the channel is just one stage in the rapid development of the media industry, indicating deep transformations in the field of mass communication and competition among media business giants.
