Ukraine's DTEK Chief Urges Allies to Shield Power Grid and Supply Generators.
An Appeal for International Support
According to TSN.ua: In a column for The Times, DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko has called on Ukraine's allies to urgently assist in protecting the nation's energy system, specifically by supplying generators and transformers. He stressed the critical need for international partners to help reinforce Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which is under sustained attack. This appeal comes as Russia's targeted strikes on energy facilities have become a central feature of the ongoing war.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Timchenko addressed the security of Ukraine's power grid. He stated that
our most urgent request to our allies is to help protect the parts of the energy system that are still operational by urgently ramping up the supply of air defense systems to Ukraine. He described this support as critically important as the country faces the challenges of an 'energy war'.
The Need to Boost Power Generation
Timchenko also emphasized the necessity of increasing power generation capacity, noting:
Secondly, we need support to increase generation volumes. He underscored that these measures are essential for Ukraine to withstand Russia's energy warfare.
Timchenko's appeal to international partners highlights the critical state of Ukraine's energy security, which grows more precarious as the war continues. Cooperation with allies in securing energy infrastructure could prove a decisive factor in sustaining the country's viability and its ability to resist external aggression. Given the current conditions, the supply of modern technology and equipment could significantly bolster Ukraine's defensive capabilities, which in turn has implications for the stability of the wider region.
