Tragedy in Nigeria: 60 people died as a result of a boat accident
According to inkorr.com: A terrible tragedy occurred in Nigeria: an overloaded boat sank, taking the lives of 60 people. This information was confirmed by 'Glavkom', citing Reuters.
The boat, which had about 100 passengers on board, capsized after colliding with a sunken tree near the village of Gausava in the Borgu area.
The head of the local Borgu administration, Abdullahi Baba Ara, noted that the death toll may rise. 'Ten people managed to survive, but their condition is serious. Many are still being searched for by rescuers,' he said.
Experts note that such accidents in Nigeria are not uncommon, especially during the rainy season. Overloaded boats often cannot withstand the load due to negligence of safety rules and poor infrastructure.
It should be reminded that recently in Nigeria, due to the sinking of a passenger canoe in Bauchi state, 18 people died, including 3 men and 15 women. Another incident occurred on a river in Bayelsa, where at least 20 people died due to an explosion of a wooden vessel.
These events once again highlight the critical safety issues on the water in Nigeria and emphasize the urgent need to improve infrastructure to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
