Tragedy in Odesa
According to inkorr.com: Maryna Martynenko noted that the family lived on the basement level, and during the storm, a powerful wave crashed against the building, rising to the second floor. The people, trapped, could not get out through the window or door, resulting in drowning. After the water was pumped out, the police began identifying the bodies. Among the dead was a 23-year-old girl who went missing the next morning.
Causes of the bad weather
On September 30, Odesa was hit by prolonged rains caused by a slow-moving local cyclone over the Black Sea. 94 mm of precipitation was recorded, which is 2.24 times higher than the monthly norm. Meteorologists noted that the cyclone's movement was blocked by an anticyclone, leading to localized downpours and flooding. The hazard warning level was raised to red.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has instructed Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba to conduct a thorough investigation of the operations in Odesa and clarify all circumstances that preceded the tragedy and led to such tragic consequences. Zelensky expects to receive detailed reports this Friday and expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased.
The tragic events in Odesa serve as a painful reminder of the risks of natural disasters and their consequences. The death of five individuals, including a child, has raised concerns among residents and authorities. President Zelensky has called for an expedited investigation to uncover the causes of the tragedy and take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
