Donald Trump officially secured the position of President of the United States on December 17, having received the necessary 270 electoral votes.
According to CNN, the Texas electors awarded Trump 40 electoral votes at a meeting in Austin on December 16, which marked the definitive securing of victory for the Republican.
It is worth noting that although Trump won the election on November 5, his victory was officially recorded only on December 17, when the Electoral College convened nationwide to officially elect the president.
It is essential to emphasize that to win the presidential election in the USA, one must secure 270 electoral votes out of 538. In the November election, Trump received 312 votes, while Kamala Harris received 226. Until now, each elector voted for the candidate they represented.
The votes from each state will be sent to Congress. Legislators will hold a joint session on January 6 to count the electoral votes and officially announce Trump and J.D. Vance as President and Vice President. They will be inaugurated on January 20, 2025.
