Trump promised to seek the execution of death sentences.
The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that he intends to 'decisively' fight for the application of the death penalty to criminals who commit violence. This statement comes after the mitigation of death sentences for most convicted individuals by Joe Biden, reports RBC-Ukraine citing Western media.
'Once I become president, I will direct the Department of Justice to actively carry out executions of death sentences. We will do everything possible to protect American families and children from brutal criminals, murderers, and monsters. We will once again become a country of law and order,' Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
According to The Guardian, the new president will not be able to reverse the mitigations made by Biden regarding 37 federal inmates who received death sentences.
Biden himself, in turn, stated that he 'condemns these murderers, sympathizes with the victims of their crimes, and empathizes with all the families who have suffered irreparable loss.'
Some praised Biden's decision, while others criticized it.
