Zelensky and Trump in Washington: what the leaders agreed on regarding Ukraine's security.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with European leaders and US President Donald Trump in Washington, which became one of the key events of the week. The American leader demonstrated a high level of transatlantic unity and support for Ukraine. According to political scientist Ihor Chalenko, Trump rehabilitated himself following an unsuccessful meeting with Russian dictator Putin in Alaska.
'I think the meeting in Washington is a Win-Win formula, where all participants in the process benefit. Everyone except Putin. And Trump actually rehabilitated himself for the media disaster at the meeting in Alaska with Putin. In Washington, he showed that there is transatlantic unity, that the United States is not abandoning Ukraine, is ready to listen to counterarguments, and this has been done,' the speaker emphasized.
According to Chalenko, the negotiations between the presidents of Ukraine and the USA, as well as the European leaders in Washington, went better than expected.
'It is positive for us that we were able to defend the postponement of the topic of territories to a bilateral meeting with Putin. The main point was discussing security guarantees for our state. As we see, this process is now intensified and accelerated. There is information that the head of the group will be US Secretary Rubio, although we know that for several months already, British Prime Minister Starmer and French President Macron have been working on this. That is, they are working on developing security guarantees,' Chalenko emphasized.
It is important for the meeting between Zelensky and Putin to happen soon. Then the Russian Federation will not be able to manipulate the current negotiations on a ceasefire and future peace in Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine had a telephone conversation with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, where they discussed the results of meetings in Washington and efforts to ensure robust security guarantees for Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with European and US leaders in Washington, during which support for Ukraine was reaffirmed and security guarantees for the country were discussed. The upcoming meeting between Zelensky and Putin is crucial for stabilizing the situation in eastern Ukraine.
