Trump nominated ultra-right conspiracy theorist Kash Patel as head of the FBI: what is known about him.
Trump appointed Kash Patel as the new FBI director
U.S. President Donald Trump appointed Kash Patel as the FBI director. Patel previously served as a senior advisor to the Director of National Intelligence and headed the office of the Secretary of Defense during Trump's first term. Trump noted that Patel is a talented lawyer and investigator who has been at the center of the fight against corruption and defended his people.
There are also rumors about replacing the current FBI director Christopher Wray. As early as 2017, Trump expressed a lack of confidence in Wray and had a negative opinion of him after the search of his resort in Mar-a-Lago and allegations of leaking classified documents.
Kash Patel is known for his views on the FBI and intelligence. He supports stripping the FBI of its intelligence functions and cleaning its ranks of Trump opponents. He is also a proponent of the ultra-right conspiracy theory of the 'deep state'.
