Former President Trump urged Israel to "get smarter" regarding its support of him, suggesting that Jews did not support him enough after his pro-Israel actions in office.

Trump called radio host Hugh Hewitt to mark the anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel, which led to the deaths of over 1,200 people and kicked off a war between Israel and the Palestinian movement, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians.

When asked if Israel will fully recover from the conflict with Hamas, Trump responded that the country will be "fine."

"I think Israel has to do one thing. They have to be smarter with respect to Trump, because they don't support me," Trump said. "I did more for Israel than anybody. I did more for the Jewish people than anybody. And it's not reciprocal, as they say, it's not reciprocal."

Trump has often called himself a pro-Israel president, citing his decision to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, the recognition of the Golan Heights, and the Abraham Accords, which helped normalize relations between Israel and several Arab countries.

But the former president has also drawn negative attention for attacking Jewish voters who didn't support him. He suggested that Jews who support Democrats should "check their head" and recently noted that they would be partly to blame if he doesn't win in November.

Trump also told Hewitt that he would support Israel if they struck back following a rocket attack from Iran last week.

"They can do very smart things now. There's a lot they can do," he added. "But the good thing is, they have the right to attack, and nobody will be upset if they attack, because they have that right."
