Kyiv's Troieshchyna District Endures 13 Days Without Heating, Indoor Temperatures Plummet to 3°C.
Residents of Kyiv's Troieshchyna District Face 13th Day Without Heat or Hot Water
According to Novyny.live: For nearly two weeks, residents of Kyiv's Troieshchyna district have been living without heating or hot water, with indoor temperatures dropping to a frigid 3°C (37°F). This crisis has caused significant distress among locals, who are now forced to find ways to survive the harsh cold. The situation is particularly severe at 55 Honore de Balzac Street. This outage highlights the severe challenges faced by Ukrainian civilians during winter amid ongoing infrastructure strain.
Local residents have been compelled to adapt to these extreme conditions. One inhabitant described the situation:
“We sleep, so you understand, like this—one blanket, another blanket, a warm bed, quilts, in short, that’s how we sleep.”Another resident added: “I walk around the house in felt boots. We haven’t had hot water for just as long as we’ve had no heating.”
Response and Support Efforts
Meanwhile, part of the Lisovyi Masyv area has been connected to alternative heat sources, which may provide some relief for a portion of residents. It is also worth noting that Poland has provided Kyiv with power generators, which could aid in maintaining electrical supply despite the lack of central heating. The situation in Troieshchyna remains critical, and local residents are hoping for a swift restoration of heat.
The prolonged heating failure in Troieshchyna underscores the vital importance of reliable utilities in a cold climate, especially for vulnerable populations. Local authorities may need to take urgent measures to resolve the issue to prevent further social and economic consequences. The incident also demonstrates how international aid can play a crucial role in helping communities manage local crises.
