Turkey is considering mandatory psychological checks for brides and grooms
According to inkorr.com: In light of the rapid increase in divorce cases, which reached 187,343 in 2024, the Turkish government plans to introduce mandatory psychological checks for newlyweds. This initiative was presented by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). This was reported by
Glavcomciting Uşak Haber Gazetesi.
Goal of the initiative
In addition to the usual medical examinations, newlyweds will undergo specialized sessions and consultations. The main aim of the proposal is to identify and discuss potential issues before the wedding, such as illnesses, tendencies towards violence, as well as financial or cultural discrepancies that often lead to conflicts.
The family support program will also include assistance after the marriage is formalized. If couples encounter difficulties, they will be able to turn to specialists to prevent escalation of conflicts. In case of inevitable divorce, newlyweds will receive support and guidance during this process.
The ruling Justice and Development Party in Turkey aims to implement mandatory psychological checks for brides and grooms to help them identify potential issues and prevent future conflicts. It is also planned to provide comprehensive support to families before and after the wedding ceremony in case difficulties arise.
This initiative has sparked active discussions in society, as efforts to reduce the number of divorces are an important step towards increasing stability in families. The implementation of psychological checks may serve as an indicator of new approaches in preparing newlyweds for family life and a new phase in the development of Turkey's social policy.
