Special Chernobyl Pension Supplement to Launch in 2026: Amount and Eligibility.
New Pension Supplement for Chernobyl-Affected Retirees in 2026
According to Novyny.live: A new monthly supplement of 2,595 Ukrainian hryvnias will be introduced in 2026 for certain categories of non-working pensioners who lived in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. This measure is designed to support retirees impacted by the consequences of the nuclear disaster that occurred on April 26, 1986. The Chernobyl accident remains one of the worst nuclear disasters in history, with long-lasting environmental and social effects.
To qualify, pensioners must have either lived or worked in the designated resettlement zones before January 1, 1993. An estimated 105,000 Ukrainian pensioners currently reside in radiation-contaminated territories and will need to provide proof of their former residence to apply for this benefit.
Funding for the New Payments
The state budget will allocate an additional 300 million hryvnias in 2026 to fund these increased payments. This initiative aims to improve the financial situation of those affected by the Chernobyl disaster and ensure adequate social support for this vulnerable segment of the population.
The introduction of special supplements for pensioners affected by the Chernobyl catastrophe is a significant step toward providing social support for vulnerable population groups.
This decision underscores the state's commitment to securing a dignified standard of living for those who suffered from radiation exposure. The allocated sum reflects the government's serious approach to addressing the lingering problems stemming from a disaster that occurred over three decades ago.
