In Buryatia, doctors mistakenly removed a healthy kidney: what is known about the consequences.
According to inkorr.com: In Buryatia, doctors at the oncological dispensary mistakenly removed a healthy right kidney from a woman, confusing her tests with the results of another patient. The Ministry of Health of the republic apologized for the suffering caused, and the investigative committee has launched a criminal case, reports 'Glavkom' citing Russian media.
After the surgery, the surgeon announced the removal of a 'tumor the size of 15 by 7 cm', but it later turned out that the kidney was perfectly healthy.
According to the response from the Ministry of Health of Buryatia, the inspection confirmed the error. 'During the inspection, it was established that your results were confused with another patient,' the document states.
In his letter, the Deputy Minister of Health of Buryatia apologized for the situation and for the inadequate medical care. An internal investigation was conducted at the oncological dispensary, and those responsible were held disciplinary accountable.
Criminal case and demands of the victim
The investigative committee opened a criminal case for causing serious harm to health through negligence. The victim demands either a kidney transplant or monetary compensation from the medical institution. This situation is reminiscent of the case involving the famous Russian gymnast Lala Kramarenko, whose doctors mistakenly removed a healthy meniscus horn in Russia.
Unfortunately, a tragedy occurred in Buryatia when a woman had a healthy kidney removed due to a doctor's mistake. Although the medical institution apologized for this misunderstanding, the doctors are still responsible for their actions. The injured woman is now trying to obtain compensation for the suffering she endured.
