A rare lynx with a cub spotted in Chernobyl: unique footage.
According to ТСН: A rare predator, a lynx with a cub, has been spotted in the Chernobyl Nature Reserve in Kyiv region.
As reported by the reserve on its Facebook page, the lynx with the baby was captured on a camera trap.
The staff of the reserve emphasized that winter does not pose a barrier for the lynx. It tolerates the cold well, easily traverses snowy areas, and can even swim across icy rivers.
“Interesting fact: while moving through the snow, the lynx's hind paws perfectly land in the tracks of its front paws. Even if there are several lynxes, they often follow each other in a line, as if adhering to an unspoken 'lynx etiquette',” reads the caption under the photo.
Two years ago, the presence of the Eurasian lynx was recorded in the Chernobyl Nature Reserve. This species is rare because it disappeared from the territory of the Ukrainian Polissia in the last century. Now, the population of lynxes in the protected area is quite stable.
Earlier, it was reported that a new species of predator, the jackal, was observed in the Chernobyl Nature Reserve, which is unusual for the Polissia region.
Importantly, scientific observations in the Chernobyl Nature Reserve confirm the recovery of nature after a thirty-year period of exclusion. The emergence of new species, such as the lynx and jackal, indicates positive changes in the ecosystem of this unique region.
