5G in Ukraine: Which Cities Will Launch Pilot Zones in a Few Weeks.
According to ТСН: 5G will soon be introduced in two Ukrainian cities. This is planned within the next few weeks.
Pilot Projects
This was reported by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov during a stream on TikTok. According to him, pilot projects will be implemented in the centers of some cities.
“Very soon, within a few weeks, we will launch 5G for these cities, or rather parts of these cities. And this will be the first important step, which will be scaled up later,” Fedorov emphasized.
Difficulties During War
Fedorov also noted that the implementation of such projects is complicated due to the full-scale war.
“We need to consider military aircraft, radars, and other electronic warfare means. For example, because 5G operates on certain frequencies and there must be certain compatibility. We have been working on this for a long time, testing with the military, and there will be a specific pilot,” the minister explained.
Possible Increase in Internet Costs
It is also worth noting that earlier there were reports about a potential increase in Internet prices in Ukraine. Costs may rise to 3 thousand hryvnias, particularly due to Law No. 4670-IX, which introduces changes in the field of mobile Internet. The new speed standards may lead to an increase in prices to 2000-3000 UAH per month, while currently packages cost 200-300 UAH.
Moreover, on November 25, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed Law No. 4670-IX on quality mobile Internet. This is an important step towards ensuring fast and predictable Internet access for every Ukrainian.
The introduction of 5G in Ukraine is a significant step forward that can facilitate the development of digital technologies in the country. However, given the potential increase in Internet prices, it is important that the new standards are accessible to the general public so that all Ukrainians can benefit from modern communications.
