Explosion in Khmelnytskyi: two victims and five injured, what is known.
According to inkorr.com: On the evening of October 28, a powerful explosion occurred in a high-rise building on Ternopilska Street in Khmelnytskyi. It is initially believed that the explosion could have been caused by domestic gas, but other versions are not ruled out, including the detonation of an unknown object. As a result of the explosion, serious destruction occurred, and some residents had to be evacuated. This was reported by the Telegram channel 'Real Khmelnytskyi'.
Rescue operations and victims of the explosion
Rescue operations lasted all night. According to the State Emergency Service (SES), the bodies of two victims were found under the rubble: a woman born in 1973 and a man born in 1983. Five people, including a child, suffered injuries of varying severity.The explosion destroyed nine apartments and damaged another fifteen. 32 residents need temporary relocation, and the city authorities organized shelter for them in a point of invincibility.
Versions of the explosion: gas or unknown object
Initially, rescuers reported the possibility of a domestic gas explosion. However, the head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional State Administration, Serhiy Tyurin, emphasized that there are no final conclusions yet:
“We are considering all versions - from a gas leak to the explosion of a certain explosive object. The final decision will be made after the examination.”
Gas service workers currently do not have access to the destroyed building. Over the past year, no applications from residents regarding a gas leak had been received. According to preliminary data, the epicenter of the explosion was likely located on the fifth floor.

As of the morning of October 29, search and rescue operations have been completed, and the analysis of emergency structures is ongoing. The city council is accepting citizens who have been affected at the base of the point of invincibility.The bodies of the deceased have been sent for forensic examination, and investigators and experts are working to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
