Kyiv will purchase 40 new trolleybuses for a billion: tender details.

According to inkorr.com: The municipal enterprise 'Kyivpastrans' has announced a tender for the purchase of 40 new low-floor trolleybuses through the Prozorro system. The total cost of the purchase amounts to UAH 1.008 billion, and the delivery period is scheduled for October 1, 2026. This was reported by the publication 'Auto Center'.

Specifications of the trolleybuses planned for purchase by 'Kyivpastrans'

The tender, announced on September 29, 2025, provides for the supply of trolleybuses longer than 11.9 meters with a fully low-floor design for easy access. Each trolleybus will accommodate about 100 passengers, including 34 seats, of which four are specially designated for people with reduced mobility and one space for a wheelchair user. Mandatory specifications include:

• Automatic ramps for barrier-free entry;
• Air conditioning and heating system for comfortable travel in any weather;
• LED lighting for energy efficiency;
• Loudspeaker system for automatic stop announcements;
• Electronic displays for information display;
• Video surveillance system for ensuring security.

Requirements for tender participants for trolleybuses for the Kyiv network

The tender winner is required to deliver all 40 trolleybuses by October 1, 2026. The proposal submission will last until October 8, 2025, and the auction will start that same day at 14:22. To participate, a bank guarantee in the amount of UAH 10.08 million must be provided, and after signing the contract – performance security of 0.5% of the total contract amount. Payment entails an advance payment of up to 70% within 10 days and the remaining funds after delivery.

Kyiv public transport is going through a tough time due to the war and the wear and tear of the fleet. Currently, about 700 trolleybuses are in operation in the capital, a significant portion of which dates back to the Soviet era. The renewal program, implemented in the 2020s, has already introduced hundreds of new buses and trams, but trolleybuses remain a priority for maintaining ecological transport.

This procurement is an important step in modernizing Kyiv's public transport, which will enhance the comfort and accessibility of transportation for all population categories. With the new trolleybuses, an improvement in the quality of transportation is expected, as well as a contribution to the ecological safety of the city.
