Rutte noted that the meeting on Friday is a test for Putin by President Trump.
'And I commend him for organizing this meeting. I believe it is important. Regarding peace negotiations, ceasefire, territories, and security guarantees, Ukraine will be involved', he emphasized.
According to him, it is currently important to see how serious the Russian dictator is. Rutte believes that only Trump can verify this.
'It is very important that the meeting takes place. This will not be the last word on this matter. There will be no final agreement on this issue. Of course, Ukraine and Europe need to be involved, but it is important to start the next stage of pressure on the Russians', the NATO Secretary General added.
Recall that the Kremlin confirmed the meeting between Putin and Trump in Alaska on August 15. In particular, one of the topics will be the war in Ukraine.
And the leaders of the European Union have urged the U.S. leader to defend Ukraine's interests during the meeting with Putin.
