Total lunar eclipse on September 8: how and when to watch the Blood Moon
On the night of September 8, 2025, residents of Ukraine and most of the Earth's inhabitants will be able to observe a rare astronomical event – a total lunar eclipse. This is the Blood Moon, which will take on a crimson hue. According to the publication Universemagazine, this year the eclipse coincides with the September full moon, known as the Corn Moon, and it will be visible to approximately 7.1 billion people, representing 88% of the planet's population.

Red Color of the Moon

According to inkorr.com: The reddish tint of the Moon during the eclipse arises from the peculiarities of light passing through the Earth's atmosphere. Red-orange rays, bypassing the planet, reach the Moon and give it a dark crimson color, allowing it to be visible even in darkness.

Observation Schedule

Ukrainians will be able to observe the initial phases of the eclipse before sunset. In Luhansk, the Moon will rise at 18:48, in Kyiv – at 19:25, and in Lviv – at 19:51. The total phase will begin at 20:30 and last until 21:52, with a maximum at 21:11. The eclipse can be observed until 23:55 when the penumbral phase ends; for this, it's enough to have an open horizon to the east and southeast.

Summary: On September 8, 2025, residents of Ukraine and many other countries will have the opportunity to witness a stunning astronomical phenomenon – a total lunar eclipse that will take on a magnificent crimson hue. This effect arises from the specific passage of light through the Earth's atmosphere, adding a magical mystery to this captivating night event.
