Two young protesters died as a result of gunfire in the Kalimati area. The conflict erupted after demonstrators attacked law enforcement officers, who responded by opening fire.

After the death of 17 people during the protests, Nepal's interior minister Ramesh Lekhak decided to resign. The government lifted the ban on social networks which had been imposed after the tragic events.
