Notre-Dame in Paris: Letter with threats of terrorist attack found.
Increased security at Notre-Dame due to threats
According to Korrespondent.net: On Saturday, October 10, heightened security measures were implemented at the entrance to Notre-Dame Cathedral. This decision was made following the discovery of a letter containing threats of a terrorist attack, as reported by Le Figaro, citing sources within the Paris police.
The letter urged the cathedral administration to close it on October 11 and 12, claiming that an attack is planned for those days. The authors of the letter also stated that 'foreigners have hidden knives inside the cathedral and are planning a massacre.'
According to the publication, the cathedral's security staff, in collaboration with police representatives, conducted a search but found no weapons. To enhance safety, additional checks for visitors were organized at the entrance to Notre-Dame.
The administration of the cathedral, which is an important tourist site in Paris, has yet to decide whether it will make an official statement regarding the incident.
Restoration of Notre-Dame after the fire
It should be noted that the official reopening of the restored Notre-Dame took place in December 2024 after extensive renovations that lasted from 2019. The restoration was necessary due to the fire that occurred on April 15, 2019, causing significant damage: the spire, wooden roof, and part of the vault were destroyed. Thanks to the efforts of over 600 firefighters, the main structure of the cathedral, most statues, unique stained glass windows, and the relic – the crown of thorns – were saved.
The restoration of Notre-Dame was supported by patrons and numerous private donors, raising a total of 846 million euros.
