Odesa to Honor Slain Activist Dmytro Hanul with Memorial Plaque.
Memorial Plaque for Dmytro Hanul
According to Novyny.live: A memorial plaque for the late activist Dmytro Hanul is planned for installation in Odesa. The initiative comes from the civic organization 'Robymo Vam Neryvy,' which submitted a formal request to the city council on August 12, 2025. The proposal will be reviewed once the city council's commission has been reconstituted with its new members.
Dmytro Hanul was killed on March 14, 2025. The design for the commemorative plaque is already complete, but its production was postponed pending the necessary official permits. In a related development, Serhiy Shalayev, 46, was detained for the murder of Dmytro Hanul and has confessed to the crime. The slain activist's family intends to fund the plaque's installation, demonstrating their commitment to preserving his legacy. Such memorials are a common way in Ukraine to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to public life.
Significance of the Memorial Plaque
Erecting this plaque will serve as a crucial step in honoring Dmytro Hanul's memory and will help raise public awareness of his contributions to society.
This initiative not only commemorates the activist's life but also underscores the importance of community involvement in memorializing those who died advocating for justice. The plaque may become a symbol for future generations, encouraging civic engagement and social responsibility.
