Exhumation of UPA fighters in Subcarpathia: what researchers found.
Exhumation work in the village of Yurkovy
According to inkorr.com: Specialists from the memorial-search center 'Dоля' have begun exhumation work in the village of Yurkovy (now Yurechkova) in Subcarpathia. It is believed that UPA fighters who defended local Ukrainians from forced deportation may be buried here. This information was provided by a correspondent from Radio Svoboda, reports 'Glavkom'.
A group of researchers is investigating the forests in the Carpathians, where up to 18 UPA members who died in a battle against the Polish Army of the Ludowa in 1947 may be buried. They defended the civilian population from forced deportation. Researchers note that accurate data on the transfer of the bodies of the dead is lacking. After the end of the Great Patriotic War in 1945, the village of Yurechkova became part of Poland, and Ukrainians began to be expelled. The UPA tried to resist these actions.
Exhumation work in this region is being conducted to establish the identities of the deceased and to honor them further. The discovery of the graves of Ukrainian soldiers may become an important stage in honoring the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of their nation. The research carried out by specialists is critically important for preserving historical truth and determining the fate of those who sacrificed their lives for their country.
This process not only helps honor the memory of the deceased but also opens new opportunities for a deeper study of the region's history. It is important to document these facts, as they form the basis of the collective memory of the Ukrainian people and can influence future historical research in Ukraine.
