In Poltava, the Mi-2 memorial helicopter was dismantled: reasons for the decision.
The Mi-2 helicopter, which was installed on a pedestal where a monument used to stand at the resting place of Peter I, was dismantled in Poltava. The exhibit was removed on the evening of September 18, just a day after it was installed, the press service of the 18th Army Aviation Brigade reported. This was reported by 'Hlavkom' referring to Suspilne Poltava.
Dismantling of the Mi-2 helicopter
According to inkorr.com: The helicopter was installed as a temporary installation for the 10th anniversary of the 18th Separate Army Aviation Brigade, but it was removed due to numerous complaints from Poltava residents.
The community reacted ambiguously to this initiative. Some considered the helicopter an interesting photo zone and a way to honor the military, while others expressed concerns that the mock-up might be confused with a real combat helicopter during air attacks.
It is reminded that the pre-trial investigation regarding the former law enforcement officer, whose fault led to a fatal traffic accident in the village of Machukhy in the Poltava region, has been completed. This is reported by 'Hlavkom' referring to the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR).
Fatal accident involving a law enforcement officer
According to investigation data, on May 2, 2025, the law enforcement officer, while under the influence of alcohol, was driving a service vehicle. He violated traffic rules and caused a collision with a passenger car, resulting in the deaths of two passengers of the service vehicle - his colleague and a serviceman. Two more people, including the driver, sustained serious injuries.
Thus, the Mi-2 helicopter, which marked the 10th anniversary of the 18th Army Aviation Brigade, was dismantled in Poltava. Meanwhile, the completion of the investigation into the fatal accident involving the law enforcement officer indicates the seriousness of the situation, which requires public discussion regarding road safety and the responsibility of law enforcement officers.
