The Parliament supported the creation of a new ministry.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy supported a bill that provides for the creation of a new Ministry of Demography and Diaspora of Ukraine. This was reported by Yevhenia Kravchuk, a member of the "Servant of the People" party and a committee member.
According to Kravchuk, the committee took as a basis a document from a group of authors and considered the proposals of an alternative project. "This is support for President Zelensky's idea to create a separate ministry that will deal with Ukrainians abroad and those we want to return," explained the deputy.
The bill stipulates that the government must create a new ministry within three months after the publication of the law. The establishment of the Fund for the Restoration of Ukraine's Demographic Potential is also planned.
Kravchuk emphasized the importance of creating such a ministry. She noted that about 6 million Ukrainian citizens are abroad, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cannot fully handle their affairs.
President Zelensky earlier announced the creation of a new institution that will be responsible for ties with Ukrainians abroad and the protection of common national interests. Parliamentarians are waiting for the government's position on creating a new ministry, after which the bill will be considered in the Verkhovna Rada.
On October 16, Zelensky also presented a plan for Ukraine's victory.
