Massive train collision in Slovakia
Today, October 13, a major collision of two high-speed passenger trains occurred in the vicinity of the village of Jablunov-nad-Turnou in the Rožňava district, resulting in injuries to at least 69 people. Among the injured is a 20-year-old Ukrainian, reports 'Glavkom'.According to 'Suspilne', the young Ukrainian was injured and is currently in the hospital. The Ukrainian embassy in Slovakia has already contacted the mother of the injured and is providing necessary assistance.The accident occurred around 10:00 local time when the two expresses traveling in opposite directions collided on a connecting track. One of the trains derailed after the impact. Rescuers, firefighters, and medics arrived to assist the injured. Among those injured are a pregnant woman and individuals with varying degrees of injuries, including some in critical condition.Police and rescue service representatives note that there were a large number of passengers on the trains during the accident. All divisions of the rescue system were activated for the evacuation of people.According to Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok, the incident likely occurred due to human error: one of the drivers failed to yield to the other.“Right now, I don't want to speculate about the causes, but according to preliminary information, it was not a systemic error, but a human one. It seems that one of the train drivers made a mistake and likely did not yield to the other train, but this is only a preliminary version,”he explained.Currently, it is officially confirmed that there are no fatalities as a result of the incident.The injured Ukrainian sustained injuries during the collision of trains in Slovakia, and the cause of the incident is considered to be the human error of one of the train drivers. Further investigation should help prevent similar incidents in the future.
