Zelensky and Trump discuss peace plan: 90% of points already agreed.
According to ТСН: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Florida against the backdrop of active Russian missile and drone attacks on Kyiv. These attacks indicate that Russia continues the war, despite conducting peace negotiations.
The scheduled meeting between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump at the Mar-a-Lago residence is set to take place at 8:00 PM Kyiv time. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a new peace plan that the US and Ukraine are actively working on.
The initial plan with 28 points proposed by Trump has been reduced by Ukraine to 20 positions. American diplomats are conducting numerous consultations, trying to find a compromise that will satisfy both Kyiv and Moscow.
US representatives note significant progress in the negotiations: over 90% of the terms of the agreement have already been agreed upon. This assessment has also been confirmed by Zelensky himself.
“It is not easy. No one says that everything will succeed at once. But every meeting and every conversation should bring us closer to a result”
The most difficult remaining issues account for about 10%, particularly territories. Russia insists on strict demands, including full control over Donbas. Zelensky noted that if Russia agrees to a ceasefire, decisions may be put to a nationwide referendum in accordance with the Constitution.
The US has also initiated a number of unconventional ideas to improve negotiations, including the establishment of an economic free zone in eastern Ukraine. The issue of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is being discussed separately, where Kyiv is proposing joint management of the plant with the US.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
The key issue remains security guarantees for Ukraine. American and European officials confirm that a package of guarantees close to NATO Article 5 was prepared in Berlin.
This package includes:
- deterrence against further aggression from Russia;
- mechanisms to monitor the peace agreement;
- clearly defined consequences for Russia in case of its violation.
One of the senior US officials described these arrangements as “the most powerful set of security protocols Ukraine has ever received.” Another source noted that Trump is ready to present the prepared guarantees to Congress as a “platinum standard.”
Trump is confident he can persuade Moscow to accept these guarantees. It is also reported that Russia allegedly does not oppose Ukraine's accession to the EU as part of the peace agreement.
The Russian side is not participating in the meeting. The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that if Kyiv refuses to pursue a peaceful settlement, Russia will continue to achieve its goals through military means.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, on the night before Zelensky's arrival, Russia launched a massive attack, firing more than 500 drones and dozens of missiles.
Zelensky emphasizes that the main goal of the negotiations is not only to end the conflict but also to obtain clear and reliable security guarantees from the US that will prevent new aggression after the war ends.
European diplomats believe that, despite the optimism, negotiations with Trump remain unpredictable.
“There are no risk-free scenarios with Trump”
The President of Ukraine has already arrived in Miami, where he is to meet with US President Donald Trump in the evening.
This meeting is an important event in the context of ongoing peace negotiations and the development of relations between Ukraine and the US. Both countries are striving to find a common solution that will help end the war and ensure stability in the region. At stake are not only security issues but also further international cooperation in times of instability.
