The US has renamed the National Center for the Arts: it is now named after Trump-Kennedy.
Renaming the National Center for the Performing Arts
According to ТСН: The US plans to change the name of the National Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, established in 1971 as a memorial to President John Kennedy. This cultural institution will now be called the Trump-Kennedy Center.
This information was confirmed by White House Press Secretary Caroline Libert. She noted that the board of directors of the Kennedy Center, appointed by Trump, supported this decision.
Libert pointed out that the renaming is linked to "the incredible work of President [Donald Trump] in preserving and improving the building over the past year".
"We congratulate President Donald J. Trump and President Kennedy — this will truly be a great union for many years to come"
She also added that the improvements were made possible not only through reconstruction but also "financially and reputationally". Libert is convinced that the new name will provide the institution with "a new level of success and greatness".
Additionally, it was reported that earlier, on December 7, during an award ceremony at the Kennedy Center, Trump jokingly added his surname to the name of the center.
In February 2025, Trump fired former president Deborah Rutter for the center's "too progressive" agenda.
The Kennedy Center is home to the National Symphony Orchestra of the USA, the American Film Institute, the Washington Chorus, the National Opera, and the Society for the Performing Arts.
It is worth noting that in October of this year, at the initiative of Donald Trump, the demolition of part of the facade of the East Wing of the White House for the construction of a ballroom began. Later, Trump denied rumors that the newly built ballroom, costing 300 million dollars, would be named in his honor.
These changes at the National Center for the Performing Arts have sparked lively discussions in the media and society. The renaming is associated not only with new leadership but also with a desire to emphasize the significance of both presidents in American culture. How this will affect the reputation of the center and its place in the country's cultural life remains to be seen.
