Chinese app Are You Dead? gains popularity: how the safety service works.
According to ТСН: In China, interest in the mobile application 'Are You Dead?' is rapidly growing. This service, developed by Moonscape Technologies, is designed for people who live alone and are concerned that in the event of an accident, no one will know about it.
Users must open the app every two days and press a special button to confirm their life and health. If confirmation is not received within the specified time, the system automatically sends an alert message to a trusted person (a relative or friend) whose contact details were provided earlier.
Purpose of the app's creation
Although the app was launched back in May last year, its popularity has surged in recent weeks. Unexpectedly, the primary audience has become young office workers and students in megacities, rather than retirees, as might have been initially assumed.
According to statistics, by 2030, the number of people living alone could reach 200 million. The developers are targeting this huge audience, positioning their product as a primary safety tool.
Despite the success, the name 'Are You Dead?' has sparked a mixed reaction on social media. Some users criticized it for its gloominess and straightforwardness. In response, Moonscape Technologies stated that they are considering rebranding options to soften the image.
In the international market, the application is known as Demumu. It has become one of the most popular paid apps in the USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, and Spain.
In the near future, the developers plan to attract additional investments and create an adapted version of the service specifically for elderly people.
It is also worth noting that specialists have discovered the Sturnus Trojan for Android, which uses accessibility features to gain control and is capable of reading even encrypted chats in WhatsApp and Telegram.
This innovative application meets the modern challenges and needs of people who maintain connections with loved ones even in large cities. With the development of technology and the increase in the number of lonely people, Moonscape Technologies' solution is finding more supporters, offering new opportunities for safety and connection.
