Rocket strike on CHPP-5 in Kyiv: why restoring heat will take a long time.
According to ТСН: As a result of the rocket strike on the Kyiv CHPP-5, the station sustained significant damage, complicating the restart of heating supply.
Situation at CHPP-5
According to Ukrainian MP Oleksi Kucherенко, five rockets hit the heat and power plant.
“It was a massive rocket strike. The damage is so severe that it is very difficult to restart the heat carrier supply — that is, heating — through the network,” Kucherенко stated.
Importance of CHPP-5 for the capital
Kucherенко emphasized the importance of CHPP-5, as it provides heat to a significant part of Kyiv, considering the complicated configuration of the heating networks.
“If you know the geography of Kyiv and the location of the heat lines, you understand how complex this system is... Given such damage, restoring heat supply is an extremely challenging task,” the MP explained.
Challenges with restoration
Kucherенко also noted that even in peacetime, during planned summer tests on heating networks, breaks can occur, and the current combat damage significantly complicates repair work.
Currently, relevant services are assessing the extent of the destruction and possible timelines for restoring stable heating supply.
Situation in the regions
In Irpin, due to power outages, it was planned to implement water supply schedules. The most difficult situation in Kyiv is observed in the Left Bank and also in Boryspil and Brovary districts.
Prospects for electricity supply
In the Ministry of Energy, an unfavorable forecast was made regarding the restoration of electricity supply in the capital. The situation remains quite complicated, and currently, no forecasts are being provided.
The circumstances surrounding CHPP-5 are alarming for the residents of Kyiv, as the restoration of the system affects not only the comfort of heating but also the overall stability of life support. Given the complexity of repair work, the city urgently needs to find solutions for restoring heating supply and assisting the population during this difficult period.
