Deputy Commander of the Ground Forces: 70% of AWOL Cases Depend on Trust in the Commander.
Trust in the Commander and Internal Climate in the Unit
According to ТСН: The main factor that helps avoid unauthorized absence from the unit (AWOL) is a high level of trust in the commander and a healthy internal climate in the unit.
This opinion was expressed by the deputy commander of the Third Army Corps, Lieutenant Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Maxim Zhorin in an interview.
He called on the command to take measures to avoid situations where soldiers resort to AWOL, emphasizing the importance of 'looking at the root of the problem' rather than just addressing the consequences.
According to Zhorin, one of the main factors influencing AWOL is the soldier's trust in their commander.
'Whether a person decides to go AWOL largely depends on the level of trust in their commander.'.
He also noted that 'a normal internal climate with the authority of the commander and trust in them' are crucial when soldiers feel that their lives are in reliable hands.
Earlier it was reported that data about AWOL and desertion cases in Ukraine had been classified.
The dilemma surrounding unauthorized absences also raises questions about the relationships between commanders and soldiers. Experience and clarity in leadership can be key to strengthening the morale of the military. This is especially important amid the modern challenges posed by war.Read also
