Detention of a Ukrainian with a drone in Warsaw: what really happened.
Detention of young people for launching a drone in Warsaw
According to inkorr.com: Two young men, a 21-year-old Ukrainian and a 17-year-old Belarusian citizen, were arrested after their drone flew over government buildings on Park Street and over the Belweder Palace in Warsaw. This information was confirmed by Polish media, including TVP Info and Polsat News.
Deputy Minister of the Interior Maciej Duszczyk stated that the detention of the drone operators took place around 7:00 PM on September 15. The police determined that the drone posed no threat, however its use in a restricted area was illegal.
“The drone flew over places where it was not allowed to fly. It was shot down. The people who were operating the drone were also detained... These individuals were interrogated overnight. We will see what the results of these procedures will be. For me, the very good news is that it worked very quickly: the drone appeared, and within a very short time it was neutralized, and the people were detained,” Duszczyk stated.
The spokesman for the Coordinator of Special Services of Poland, Jacek Dożynski, noted that this incident is not part of a large-scale espionage operation, but rather a consequence of reckless actions by young people. An investigation is underway regarding violations of flight regulations in restricted areas.
The actions of the Ukrainian and Belarusian led to their detention by the police and the initiation of criminal proceedings for violating flight rules in restricted areas.
This incident underscores the importance of adhering to flight safety legislation, especially in areas with heightened security. The Polish authorities are tightening control over the use of drones, which may impact further regulation of their use in urban areas.
