Housing and Utility Discounts for Combat Participants

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has announced updated procedures for combat veterans seeking financial relief on housing and utility bills. These benefits are available not only to service members but also to their family members. Importantly, the discounts are not applied automatically—eligible individuals must formally apply through the Pension Fund.

The assistance is provided in cash. Parents of combat veterans can receive a 75% discount on rent and utility costs. For those with war-related disabilities, a full 100% compensation is available. By default, the Pension Fund opens a payment account with Oschadbank.

If beneficiaries prefer to receive funds through a different bank, they must submit a request to their local Pension Fund office. The Ministry of Defense also clarifies:

“A spouse can certify a power of attorney. It is not necessary to go to a notary—the commander of a military unit can do this.”

These measures allow combat veterans and their families to reduce the financial burden of utility expenses. The process requires proactive steps from applicants, but it offers meaningful savings, especially during challenging economic times when household costs are rising.
