Ukraine struck a sports club in Dnipro: how karateka continue training.
On July 26, a missile strike occurred in Dnipro, causing serious damage to sports infrastructure. The dojo of the karate club 'Rensei' was seriously damaged. This was reported by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
Consequences of the missile strike
A strike was recorded near the sports hall, creating a large crater. In particular, the shockwave destroyed all the internal equipment of the gym, forcing it to remain in an emergency state. It is worth noting that, fortunately, no athletes or coaches were injured.
The 'Rensei' dojo was opened in 2014 and became a training place for local karateka as well as a training center for the regional team. During the full-scale war, the 'Rensei' club acted as a volunteer center to support internally displaced persons and athletes. Currently, 16 national-level karateka are training at the club, participating in the Ukrainian championships.
'Children cried when they learned about the destruction. For them, this hall was a second home. But already the next day we were carrying equipment out through the windows to continue training,' said the club president Oleksandra Yelanska.
At this time, training is being held in rented halls around the city, and preparations are ongoing for the European Championship in Denmark in September.
As a result of the missile strike, the sports hall of the karate club in Dnipro has been seriously damaged, but training continues in other halls. The 'Rensei' club has played an important role in the formation and preparation of young athletes, who have not been broken by the tragic event and continue to prepare for future competitions.
