New Fines Loom for Draft Evaders in Ukraine: Here’s How Much They’ll Pay.
Military Mobilization in Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine's ongoing military mobilization of men has created challenges in maintaining proper military registration. Some individuals are avoiding their duties and may be placed on a wanted list. The main reasons for being declared wanted include:
- failing to report for a military medical commission (MMC) after receiving a summons;
- delaying the update of personal data.
Legislative Changes
To support mobilization efforts, Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, passed Draft Law No. 10379, which tightens penalties for violations of military registration rules. For instance, failing to submit or delaying information now carries a fine ranging from 3,400 to 5,100 hryvnias. If the same offense is repeated within a year, fines increase to between 5,100 and 8,500 hryvnias.
During the current mobilization, it is critical for citizens to understand their responsibilities and comply with established regulations. Violations of military registration can lead not only to financial penalties but also to legal consequences, such as being placed on a wanted list by the relevant authorities.
This situation highlights the importance of adhering to the law during mobilization, especially given the military's growing needs.
The legislative changes introduced by the Verkhovna Rada aim to ensure that citizens gradually fulfill their military obligations, thereby strengthening the country's defense capabilities. The issue of draft evasion also reflects the socioeconomic challenges that society faces during wartime.
