Court in Karlivka Substitutes Prison Term with Probation for Draft Evasion.
Draft Evasion Case in Karlivka
According to Novyny.live: A resident of Karlivka in the Poltava region has avoided prison time for evading military mobilization. The man, who received a summons on June 25, 2024, failed to report to the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC) by 5:00 PM on June 29 as ordered. This case comes amid Ukraine's ongoing efforts to bolster its armed forces in the face of a full-scale invasion. On January 16, the Karlivka District Court initially sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.
However, the court ultimately replaced the actual prison term with a one-year probationary sentence. The court's decision considered the defendant's participation in volunteer work in the Donetsk region and an order for him to transfer 50,000 hryvnias to support Ukraine's defenders.
Appealing the Verdict
The court's verdict can be appealed within 30 days. Any appeal would be reviewed by the Poltava Court of Appeal.

The court's substitution of a custodial sentence for probation may reflect an attempt to balance punitive measures with social responsibility. The defendant's involvement in volunteer activities was likely a mitigating factor, as Ukrainian courts often consider positive contributions by individuals who have otherwise broken the law.
