Middle East Conflict: What Ukraine's Assistance Entails

According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian military intelligence has confirmed the country is prepared to share its expertise in intercepting Iranian drones with international partners, though it will not deploy forces on missions in the Middle East. Vadym Skibitskyi, Deputy Head of Ukraine's Defence Intelligence, stated that while Ukraine will not participate in foreign operations, it is ready to offer its hard-won knowledge. The country's extensive battlefield experience against Iranian-made Shahed drones has made it a leading authority on countering these specific threats.

'We possess the expertise to understand from which direction, at what time, and along which flight paths these 'Shaheds' are launched.' Vadym Skibitskyi

This offer comes in response to a request for assistance from British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer regarding the downing of Iranian drones. Skibitskyi emphasized that the shared threat makes such cooperation vital: 'We are not saying we are going to participate (in missions abroad) in practice. But we are offering shared experience.' Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also noted that several Middle Eastern nations have sought Ukraine's expert advice following Iranian drone attacks. This positions Ukraine as a key potential resource for nations facing similar asymmetric threats.

Ukraine's involvement in these consultations underscores the growing importance of international security cooperation against shared technological threats emanating from the Middle East. The country's practical, real-world experience in counter-drone warfare could prove invaluable to other nations. However, Ukraine's refusal to engage in military missions beyond its borders highlights its continued focus on its own defense needs amid the ongoing war with Russia on its eastern front.
