Ukraine Seeks Full Membership in JEF, Zelenskyy Announces in Helsinki.
Ukrainian President's Address at the JEF Summit
According to Novyny.live: During the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) summit held in Helsinki, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared Ukraine’s ambition to move beyond its current partnership and become a full-fledged member of this multinational defense coalition. He emphasized that Ukraine is prepared to contribute its extensive combat experience to strengthen the alliance, potentially enhancing its collective capabilities.
JEF, which operates under the leadership of the United Kingdom, comprises the following nations:
- Denmark
- Estonia
- Finland
- Iceland
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Sweden
Ukraine has already been granted enhanced partner status within JEF, paving the way for deeper military collaboration. In October 2022, Valeriy Zaluzhny, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, attended the TARASSIS exercises in the United Kingdom, underscoring Kyiv’s active engagement in JEF-related activities.
“We are ready to move forward, bringing our experience and capabilities to make the JEF community even stronger. Our goal is simple and clear: Ukraine is ready to become a full member of JEF.”
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
This announcement highlights Ukraine’s determination to forge stronger ties with international defense organizations and bolster regional collective security.
Zelenskyy’s statement reflects Ukraine’s strategic push to deepen military cooperation with European allies amid ongoing security threats. Joining JEF could significantly enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities and foster closer coordination with partner nations, a critical need given the continued aggression from Russia. It also stands to strengthen political bonds between Kyiv and JEF member states, potentially contributing to greater stability in the region.
