Expert: Striking Russian Missile Factories is a Critical Priority for Ukraine.
The Need to Target Russian Production Sites
According to TSN.ua: Mykhailo Samus, Director of the New Geopolitics Research Network, has argued that Ukraine must launch concentrated attacks on Russian factories producing ballistic missiles. He stated this is a crucial step, given Ukraine's shortage of interceptor missiles and the need to halt the production of advanced weaponry. According to Samus,
"the only effective solution for Ukraine is to destroy the missile production facilities themselves on Russian territory."
In the current war, where defense is paramount, there is a necessity to conduct systematic missile strikes. Samus noted that without fuel or specific microchips, the manufacturing process physically stops. This underscores the importance of targeted actions against key enterprises like the 'Votkinsk Plant,' a vital component of the Russian Federation's missile industry. This strategy reflects a shift from purely defensive measures to degrading an aggressor's capacity to wage war.
Developing Ukraine's Own Missile Production
To address the missile deficit, the expert believes Ukraine must urgently achieve serial production of its own missile technology. With systems like Patriot (PAC-3) and THAAD deployed in the Middle East, and Western missiles like Storm Shadow and Scalp potentially available for strikes on Russian targets, finding effective countermeasures is essential.
- Awaiting ballistic missiles from domestic manufacturers
- The 'Fire Point' and 'Long Neptune' projects
- Long-range weaponry for the Ukrainian Armed Forces with a range of 500 to 1000 km
Therefore, considering all the challenges facing Ukraine, implementing plans to destroy Russian production capacity has become an urgent necessity for ensuring national security.
Mykhailo Samus's position highlights the current challenges in Ukraine's defense strategy against Russia. The emphasis on striking the enemy's industrial base points to the importance of not just air defense, but also proactive offensive capabilities. Simultaneously, developing domestic missile production could be a key factor in enhancing Ukraine's military independence and reducing reliance on Western arms supplies.
