Ukraine and Britain are starting a joint project LMM-RapidRanger to enhance the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The launch of the large-scale project LMM-RapidRanger to upgrade Ukraine's air defense was agreed upon during a meeting of the Ukrainian president's delegation with British partners.
As part of this project, Ukraine will receive over five thousand LMM interceptor missiles and corresponding launchers.
These missiles have demonstrated their effectiveness in battles from 2022 to 2024 and successfully destroyed Shahed drones.
According to the Ministry of Defense, this agreement is one of the largest in Ukraine's history in the field of security and defense. The project worth 1.6 billion pounds sterling will be implemented by 2030 with funding backed by the British government agency UK Export Finance (UKEF).
The implementation of the project will be carried out jointly with the British company Thales, Ukrainian enterprises, and the Government of Great Britain. In addition to supplying weapons, localization of production and technology transfer are planned to enhance Ukraine's strategic independence in the field of air defense.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a military aid package worth 1.6 billion pounds sterling ($2 billion) for Ukraine to procure over 5000 air defense missiles.
Additionally, an emergency summit regarding the conflict in Ukraine took place in London. The summit on European defense and security concluded after a two-hour discussion.
