Ukraine received ammunition funded by 70,000 Slovaks.
About 70,000 residents of Slovakia raised money for ammunition, which was delivered to Ukraine with the help of six trucks. A total of 122 tons of ammunition were delivered on 135 pallets. According to the initiator of the collection, Fedir Blashchak, Slovakia contributed more to Ukraine's military needs than Canada. The "Ammunition for Ukraine" campaign raised 4.5 million euros, of which 4 million have already been spent. The remainder will be directed to the purchase of ammunition for grenade launchers.
"October 7th is a big day that we have been waiting for from the very beginning when we started collecting ammunition," emphasized Marian Kulich. "This was a clear signal from the Slovaks. 70,000 citizens joined this collection and continue to make regular donations for ammunition so that Ukraine can defend itself against the aggressor."
The campaign was launched after the Slovak government rejected the Czech initiative to collect shells for Ukraine. Slovakia actively supports Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations and has been providing assistance since the Russian aggression in 2014. The country has provided significant humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, food, and refugee shelter. Slovak organizations and volunteers also actively participate in fundraising efforts.
At present, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico held their second intergovernmental consultations. Earlier, Robert Fico announced that he would visit Moscow on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and spoke against Ukraine's NATO membership. Additionally, Ukraine and Slovakia plan to launch alternative rail service between Kyiv and Bratislava.
